How To Tell If Your Atta Is Adulterated

Adulteration is a real concern in the flour market, and it's worth knowing what to look for.

Colour: pure wheat atta has a warm, slightly off-white to light brown tone — flour that looks unusually bright white may have been bleached or mixed with cheaper starches.

Smell: fresh atta has a mild, slightly nutty smell. A musty or chemical smell is a red flag.

Texture: rub a small amount between your fingers — pure atta feels slightly coarse and not overly smooth or powdery.
